Dear Mr Fitzgibbon

Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine Regulatory Reform

Thank you for your letter of 13 October 2016 requesting the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) to include the impact of the Australian Government's proposed relocation of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Authority (APVMA) in its current performance audit of Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine (agvet) Regulatory Reform.

As you noted, the ANAO is currently undertaking an audit of the effectiveness of the APVMA's implementation of reforms to agricultural and veterinary chemical regulation and the extent to which the authority has achieved operational efficiencies and reduced the costs burden on regulated entities. In the context of the current audit, the ANAO will have regard to any forward-looking impacts of the proposed relocation of the authority. At this time, the audit is being undertaken with a view to tabling in the Autumn sitting period in 2017.

Yours sincerely

Grant Hehir
