Accountability and reporting
Please direct enquiries through our contact page.
The Auditor-General is responsible for managing the ANAO within the arrangements of the broader Australian Public Service. These obligations are met by being transparent and reporting on the ANAO activities and operations.
Accountability and reporting
Auditor-General’s disclosure of expenses
The Auditor-General discloses publicly any expenses incurred to ensure transparency. The Auditor-General’s expenses are disclosed every six months.
Executive remuneration
In response to an increasing level of interest from the Parliament and the public to provide greater transparency of remuneration of senior executives and other highly-paid officials, the ANAO publishes additional information that is externally audited, to what must be reported in the financial statements on key management personnel remuneration under the accounting standards.
Gifts and benefits
The ANAO gifts and benefits policy recommends that ANAO employees do not accept any gifts or benefits in their role as an employee of the ANAO. Employees are required to report any offered gift or benefit (whether accepted or refused) within ten business days of the offer being made, through an internal gifts and benefits register. The data collected through the register is reported to the ANAO’s Executive Board of Management, and a subset of the data is reported publicly, twice per year.
Reconciliation Action Plan
The ANAO confirms its commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the development and implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Procurement
Annual procurement plan
The information in the annual procurement plan, which is available on AusTender, is provided for planning purposes only and it does not represent a solicitation or constitute a request for proposal, nor is it a commitment by the Government to purchase the described property or services. All planned procurements are subject to revision or cancellation.
Procurement complaints handling
The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) must comply with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) when procuring goods and services. The Government introduced the Government Procurement (Judicial Review) Act 2018 (the Act) to provide suppliers and/or potential suppliers with a mechanism for lodging a formal complaint about a procurement. The ANAO's procurement complaints page has information about what a covered procurement is under the Act, how to lodge a complaint and how the ANAO will respond.

Senate Order on Entity Contracts
On 20 June 2001, the Senate agreed to an Order requiring each Minister to table a letter advising that a list of contracts in respect of each entity administered by that Minister has been placed on the Internet with access to the list through the entity home page.
An amendment to the Order on 14 May 2015 requires all procurement contracts be listed in a report on AusTender, with non-procurement contracts to be listed on entity websites.
The Senate Order for Entity Contracts is produced within two months of the conclusion of two reporting periods each year, Financial Year and Calendar Year.
The Senate Order for Entity Contracts requires each entity to list details of all contracts entered into which provide for a consideration to the value of $100,000 (GST inclusive) or more that have:
- not been fully performed as at the end of the reporting period; and/or
- been entered into during the 12 months prior to the end of the reporting period.
ANAO contracts that are relevant to the requirements of this Senate Order are published on AusTender. The ANAO does not have any grants, sale of goods/services, disposals and other financial arrangements that are within the Senate Order threshold as stated above and are arrangements considered “contracts.”
The accountable authority of the ANAO has assured that, based on the information available as a result of reasonable enquiries undertaken by officers in the agency, the listed contracts do not contain any inappropriate confidentiality provisions.
The estimated cost of complying with this order, based on charge out rates for each level of officer involved in the process, is $635.94.
Please direct any enquiries through our contact page.
