Dear Dr Webster
Request for audit into Housing Support Program
Thank you for your correspondence dated 17 January 2025 requesting a review into the allocation of funding under the Housing Support Program.
My office has made preliminary enquiries with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts in relation to the matters referred in your letter.
I have considered the matters you raised and determined they warrant further consideration in the process for the development of the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) 2025–26 Annual Audit Work Program (AAWP). The AAWP reflects the ANAO’s audit strategy and informs the Parliament, government entities and the public of the planned audit coverage for the Australian Government sector. Topics on the AAWP can be specific to individual programs or be scoped to look at the issue more broadly, for instance the Federation Funding Agreements Framework. The 2025–26 AAWP will be published on the ANAO website in July 2025.
If I decide to commence the audit in 2025-26, details will be provided on the ANAO Performance audits in progress webpage.
Yours sincerely
Dr Caralee McLiesh PSM
Auditor-General
Correspondence from Dr Anne Webster MP
Good morning,
I am writing concerning the recently announced Victorian component of the Government's Housing Support Program (https://minister.infrastructure.gov.au/c-king/media-release/albanese-government-turbocharging-housing-victoria) The locations where funding was granted, announced in Mernda alongside a Labor candidate, and with a strong component in the Bendigo electorate - and with nothing allocated in my electorate of Mallee - lead me to question whether the Program granted funds in accordance with stated criteria, and whether that criteria was appropriate in the circumstances.
I ask that the Program be listed on your review process and for confirmation of receipt of my request.
Kind regards
Dr Anne Webster MP
