Dear Senator Colbeck
Request for an audit into the COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme
I am writing in response to your letter dated 27 August 2024 requesting that I consider an audit into the management of the COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme.
The matter you referred will be considered as part of the development of the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) 2025–26 Annual Audit Work Program (AAWP).
The AAWP reflects the ANAO’s audit strategy and informs the Parliament, government entities and the public of the planned audit coverage for the Australian Government sector. The 2025–26 AAWP is expected to be published on the ANAO website in July 2025.
If I decide to commence the audit, detail will be provided on the ANAO Performance audits in progress website.
Yours sincerely
Rona Mellor PSM

Dear Ms Mellor
Thank you for your letter of 12th July 2024 outlining the Work Program for 2024/2025.
I note that you have advised that to determine the audit work program for each portfolio the ANAO considers a number of criteria which you have outlined.
I have had a number of representations in relation to the COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme which played an important role during the management of the pandemic.
I note the COVID Response Inquiry is due to report in September, however given the matters that have been raised with me, a specific audit into the management of the COVID-19 Claims Scheme is warranted.
Yours faithfully
Richard Colbeck
Senator for Tasmania
