Dear Dr Stone

Potential audit of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority

Thank you for your letter of 7 September 2015 regarding the Murray-Darling Basin Authority. As you have outlined in your letter, the Authority’s implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan has been included as a potential audit in the Australian National Audit Office’s (ANAO) Audit Work Program July 2015.

As you will appreciate, the ANAO seeks to achieve a spread of topics across the public sector and the selection and timing of audits is dependent on competing audit priorities. However, I note your concerns about the Authority’s processes and procedures in implementing the Basin Plan and will consider them when determining the priority and timing of the potential audit.

Yours sincerely

Rona Mellor PSM
Acting Auditor-General
