The Auditor-General responded on 9 May 2016 to correspondence from Ms Catherine King MP on 22 April 2016 regarding comments made by Ms Sophie Mirabella in relation to Commonwealth funding for Wangaratta Hospital.

Request for an ANAO investigation into withdrawal of funding for Wangaratta Hospital
Thank you for your letter of 22 April 2016 requesting the ANAO investigates comments made by Ms Sophie Mirabella in relation to Commonwealth funding for Wangaratta Hospital.
The ANAO has undertaken preliminary enquiries into this matter including a review of funding provided to the hospital from 2012–13 through to date. Our enquiries have not raised any particular issues. On this basis I consider that the value that a performance audit could bring at this time would be limited.
In these circumstances, and given the ANAO’s resourcing levels and other performance audit priorities, I do not propose to further examine the particular matters that you have raised with me.
